Attic Insulation Upgrades
Most homes built before the mid-2000s are sitting well under current recommended levels. A full upgrade brings the attic up to spec and seals the air leaks that make insulation useless in the first place.

Spray Foam Insulation
Where you need an air barrier and insulation in one — cathedral ceilings, knee walls, rim joists and tight corners a blower can't reach properly. It seals and insulates in the same pass.

Attic Top-Ups
If the existing insulation is dry and clean, there's often no reason to remove it. We air seal first, then blow fresh material over top to bring the depth back up. It's the cheapest option when it's the right one.

Insulation Removal
Old insulation that is water-damaged, contaminated by rodents, or compacted flat isn't doing anything. It gets vacuumed out, the attic gets cleaned and sanitised, and the new material goes in over a clean deck.

Why attic insulation matters
The attic decides how the whole house feels.
Heating and cooling bills
Heat rises, and an under-insulated attic is where most of it leaves the house. Bringing the attic up to depth is usually the single cheapest efficiency improvement available to an Ontario homeowner.
Ice dams
Ice dams aren't a gutter problem — they're a heat problem. Warm air escaping into the attic melts the snow, it refreezes at the cold eave, and the backed-up water goes under the shingles.
Comfort through the seasons
Cold second-floor bedrooms in February and an unbearable upstairs in July usually come back to the same attic. Fix the insulation and the whole floor evens out.
One system, one contractor
Your roof and your attic are the same problem.
Most companies do one or the other. A roofer replaces your shingles and never looks at what's underneath; an insulation company blows in a foot of material and blocks the soffit vents doing it. Both jobs pass inspection on their own and the roof still fails early.
Heat escaping through an under-insulated attic melts snow on the roof deck. That meltwater refreezes at the cold eave and forms an ice dam, which pushes water back up under the shingles. Meanwhile, moist air from the house condenses on the cold underside of the deck and rots the sheathing from the inside.
Calthorpe does both trades, so we look at both sides of the deck on every visit — insulation depth, air sealing, intake and exhaust ventilation, and the roof surface itself. That's the honest advantage of using one contractor for the lot.
